Transition

In September 2024 we bid farewell to our 31st Rector, the Rev. Kate Malin, as she left to take up a new position at the Church of the Heavenly Rest in New York City.

This means we’ve now entered a period that the Episcopal Church calls "transition". Only God knows how long this will take, and where it will lead us. Along the way we’ve been reflecting on who we are as a church and where we see ourselves in the years ahead. These conversations have formed the basis of our parish profile, published in October 2024, and will guide the search for our next Rector. How to apply

Candidates interested in submitting an application should send their cover letter, resume and OTM profile to Canon Denise Lavetty, Interim Canon for Transition Ministry at the Diocese of New York (transitions@dioceseny.org). Applications must not be sent to Christ’s Church itself or to any of its staff or lay leaders.

Interim leadership

In the meantime, we’re delighted that the Rev. Janet Vincent has joined us as Interim Rector. A priest for over 40 years, she was Rector of St. Columba’s – one of the largest parishes in Washington, DC – for eight years before her retirement in 2014. Prior to that, she served in the Diocese of New York as Rector of Grace Church, White Plains, from 1997 to 2006, and Rector of St. John’s, Kingston, from 1988 to 1997. More recently, she supported the Church of Christ the King in Stone Ridge, NY, as Interim Priest-in-Charge from 2019 to 2021, overseeing a major construction project and successfully expanding online worship during the pandemic. A gifted preacher and effective administrator, she is also a keen photographer and accomplished writer, and is currently researching a book about the Kalaupapa settlement in Hawaii.

We’ve expanded the role of the Rev. Jen Brown in assisting with pastoral care and youth. She will support our Curate, the Rev. Ryan Zavacky, and our Youth Coordinator, Tyler James, with Sunday School programming, youth group, the Youth Grantmaking Board and Christ’s Church Nursery School. She will lead the annual youth trip to Taizé in France, and will also help with preaching and liturgy as needed.

We’re also grateful to the Rev. Margaret Rose, a Rye resident who also serves on the Presiding Bishop’s staff, for providing additional interim support during the fall of 2024.
