Discernment Study:
Members of Christ’s Church were invited to participate in small group conversations to discuss the meaning of church in their lives - what they love, what gives them joy, what could be improved and where they see Christ’s church in the future. Ten meetings were offered at different locations from June through August of 2021, each led by a facilitator, a scribe, and a common agenda. About 75 members participated. Leadership believes that there was a thorough representation of the church’s constituencies by the 75 participants. All the comments from the meetings were compiled and sorted by themes/values.

Using the results of these conversations, the Vestry and Staff came up with lists of potential capital campaign projects and estimated costs. These results have been translated into a Case Study which outlines the current needs of our parish and the proposed fundraising that would be associated with meeting those needs. In the month of February, this case study will be emailed to all parishioners along with an online questionnaire. We ask that parishioners check their emails and please spend some time answering the questionnaire. A few parishioners will also be interviewed by our Capital Campaign Consultant Leslie Pendleton who will compile the results from the questionnaires and interviews into a report. This Feasibility Study Report will be presented to the congregation (in person if possible) and will provide important information to the leadership who will make the final decisions about moving forward with a capital campaign.

…Early last March, just weeks before the pandemic shutdown, our vestry voted unanimously to hire Leslie Pendleton of Core Campaign Consulting to engage Christ’s Church in a process called “discernment.” Discernment is the first phase of a possible church capital campaign. It is a structured process of listening and envisioning what God is calling a church to do and be.
Discernment may lead to a capital campaign and it may not. Either way, the exercise is invaluable in helping clergy and leadership clarify a parish vision which in turn will guide us in setting goals, allocating resources, and measuring success…
…There is great joy evident in our parish community as we meet one another again and look to a wider reunion. I pray you will join in this important venture as we embark with hope and gratitude on the next chapter of our life in faith…
